After Districts

  1. St. Stephen’s (14-0) – Full steam ahead for the lady Falcons as they remain undefeated and win the District 10 1A Championship, beating Out-of-Door 19-6 in the Semi Final game on Wednesday and winning 19-2 over Cardinal Mooney on Thursday in the District Final. They are the well deserved #1 Seed in Region 3 and will host #8 Bishop Verot on Friday 4/21 at 7pm – a team they beat 14-2 earlier in the season. We expect to see this team in Naples in the Final Four.
  2. Academy of the Holy Names (12-3) – The lady Jaguars were the favorites all season to win District 9 1A and they made it happen last week, beating Clearwater Central Catholic 19-4 in Tuesday’s Semi Final and Calvary Christian 13-8 in the District Final on Thursday. The lady Jags are the #3 Seed in Region 3 and will host #6 Barron Collier on Friday 4/21 at 7pm.
  3. Cypress Creek (12-5) – Wow! What a run by the lady Coyotes as they win the District 5 1A Championship.  First beating Pasco 9-5 on Monday in the Quarter Finals, then beating Tampa Catholic 11-7 on Tuesday in the Semi Finals and capping it off with an 10-8 victory over Berkeley Prep in the District Final. They earned their way into this poll. They are the #7 Seed in Region 2, but due to their District win they will host #2 Seed The First Academy on Friday 4/21 at 7pm. The lady Coyotes are hitting their stride. Recommend this as a game to watch. Upset Alert.
  4. Berkeley Prep (9-7) – The lady Bucs are runners up in District 5 1A, beating River Ridge 14-5 on Tuesday and losing 10-8 to a gritty Cypress Creek in the Final on Thursday.  The lady Bucs are #5 Seed in Region 2 and will travel to face #4 Seed Bishop Moore on Friday 4/21 7pm. Tough road game for a young team.
  5. St. Pete Catholic (13-5) – The lady Barons have been running at a hectic pace all season and we think it caught up with them in the District 10 1A Semi Final where they lost 15-14 to Cardinal Mooney. Good news is they did enough during regular season to earn #5 Seed in Region 3. They will face #4 Seed Calvary Christian on the road Friday 4/21 at 7pm, a team they beat 16-11 earlier in the season. That head-to-head matchup is the only reason they are ranked higher than the lady Warriors. We will see if it is deserved this Friday.

Pre-Season

  1. St. Stephen’s – The lady Falcons had a spectacular 2022 Season, going 14-3. After losing to Out-of-Door in the District 11 1A Final 14-13, they still qualified for regional play and were able to finally beat the lady Thunder (after 2 close losses) in a close 7-6 game in the Regional Semi Final. The lady Falcons’ run to States came to an end in a 12-7 loss to Naples in the Regional Final.  We expect St. Stephen’s to have another fantastic run in 2023. They are returning a very talented team lead by Senior Captains Bella Rosa, Sophia Creneti (Swarthmore College) as well as Junior Captains Ashling Marshall (Bryant University) and Sienna Cassella (Rutgers). Unfortunately, we will not see much of them in February since there are only 2 games on the schedule (MaxPreps).  The schedule gets better in March with recommended games to watch:  Riverview (away) March 2 at 6:00 p.m. and Regional Semi Final rematch with Berkeley Prep (home) on Saturday, March 4 at 11:00 a.m.
  2. Berkeley Prep – The lady Buccaneers finished 2022 with a 9-7 record winning their 2nd District 10 title with an 18-9 win over Academy of the Holy Names. Their season ended with a home regional loss to a very talented St. Stephen’s 11-6. The Berkeley girls graduated some very talented seniors last season in attack Ashley Quinn (Kenyon College) and defense/midfielder Mylinh Vu. This year Sr D/M Finley Jordan (Haverford College) and A/M Freshmen Luca Mastrandrea will be the players to watch. Games to watch this season: Regional rematch with St. Stephen’s March 4 away at 11:00 a.m. and Naples on March 11 home at noon. We do expect the lady Bucs to be the top team in District 5 1A this upcoming season.
  3. Academy of the Holy Names – The lady Jaguars finished 2022 with a 11-7 record, losing to Berkeley Prep in District 10 1A Finals – but still qualifying for regional play. They did win their first regional game against St. Pete Catholic on the road 20-13 and finished the season with a region semi final loss to a talented Naples team 20-5 on the road.  The lady Jags graduated 4-year starter Midfield/Draw Specialist Sophia Pyne (Holy Cross) and Midfielder Catie Curtis. Both will be hard to replace. Senior Midfielder Lauren Brown (Vanderbilt) and Junior M/D Reese MacDiarmid (Winthrop University) are players to watch along with up-and-coming freshman attack Lauren Martinez.  Games to watch: St. Pete Catholic home regional rematch on February 21 at 5:00 p.m. and Berkeley Prep home District Final rematch on March 16 at 5:00 p.m. The lady Jags look to be the top team in District 9 with Berkeley Prep being moved out to District 5 this season.
  4. St. Pete Catholic – The lady Barons had a spectacular 2022 Season with a 13-3 record, a District 9 Title and topping it off with their first Regional appearance. Lead by Junior Captain Jocelyn Smith they are a young team.  We expect to see them compete for a district title but being moved into a new District (10 1 A) with a talented St. Stephen’s is going to be tough. The big game to watch is a regional rematch with Academy of the Holy Names on February 21 on the road.
  5. Out-of-Door – The lady Thunder finished 2022 with a 15-2 record, losing only to Olentangy Liberty (OH) during regular season. But also losing in Regional Semi Finals to St. Stephen’s 7-6 in their 3rd match up of the season. The lady Thunder 2022 class was laden with talented seniors including Midfielder Dani Taraska (Berry College) who will be hard to replace. Junior Mid/Def Emma Arrigo (Stetson) will be a player to watch this upcoming season for Out-of-Door Academy. Coach Keber has put together a very challenging schedule which includes IMG Academy, Berkeley Prep, Olentangy Liberty (OH) and Newsome. Game to watch: home regional rematch with St. Stephen’s on March 15 at 5:00 p.m. We will see if this tough schedule prepares them well enough to knock off St. Stephen’s in District playoffs.
