Final Poll

  1. Steinbrenner (18-1) – The lady Warriors waltzed thru District playoffs as expected with 2 comfortable 20-2 wins over Land O’ Lakes on Tuesday’s District Semifinal and Wiregrass Ranch on Thursday’s District Final. The lady Warriors are #1 Seed for Region 3 2A which has them hosting # 8 Seed Wiregrass Ranch (11-5) on Tuesday 4/19 at 7 pm. We expect to see the lady Warriors playing into May.
  2. Newsome (13-4) – The lady Wolves are the District 10 2A Champions, opening District Playoffs with a 25-1 win over Palm Harbor University on Tuesday for District Semifinals. Thursday’s District Final with rival Plant was a lot closer than their earlier meeting on March 30th (14-4 Newsome). Plant held a 6-5 lead at half but could not hold on as the lady Wolves outscored them 5-1 in the second half. The lady Wolves are the #2 Seed in Regional Playoffs. They will host a tough #7 Seed Manatee (10-4) on Tuesday 4/19 at 7 pm.
  3. Plant (12-5) – The lady Panthers were a surprisingly low #3 Seed in District 10 2A playoffs, even though they won a head-to-head matchup with #2 Seed Sickles earlier in the regular season. FHSAA has many of us wondering how this happens. The lady Panthers opened in quarter final play on Monday against Alonso winning 22-3. Then took on #2 Seed Sickles on Wednesday for the District Semifinals winning 16-4. Thursday’s District Final against Newsome was what we expected to see since the new Districts were announced. Plant was able to get a 6-5 lead in the first half but could not hold on as Newsome outscored them 5-1 in the second half. The lady Panthers are the #5 Seed in Region 3 Playoffs and will travel to a tough Gulf Coast (11-4) on Tuesday 4/19. These teams have played earlier in the season with Plant hosting back on February 25th where the lady Panthers won 18-11. This time Plant will be making the 3 hour road trip.
  4. Sickles (15-4) – The lady Gryphons’ 11 game winning streak came to an end this week with their 16-4 District 10 2A Semifinal loss to #3 Seed Plant on Wednesday. That is the tough part about playing in a District with 2 of the top 15 2A teams in the State. Good news is that the lady Gryphons are still playing, earning the #6 Seed in Regional Playoffs and will travel to play #3 Seed Riverview (12-6) on Tuesday 4/19 at 7 pm. Both these teams have played a very tough regular season schedule to prepare them for playoffs, definitely a game to watch. Countering Riverview’s Susan Lowther on the draw will be fun to watch.
  5. Riverview (12-6) – The lady Rams are back in our top 5 after their 11-7 District 11 2A Final win over Manatee on Wednesday. They lady Rams have played a tough regular season schedule seeing some of the best teams in the State earning them #3 Seed in Regional Play. Riverview will match up with a battle tested #6 Seed Sickles (15-4) on Tuesday 4/19. Recommended game to watch.

End of Regular Season

  1. Steinbrenner (16-1) – The lady Warriors finished regular season play on the road winning 17-1 over Durant on Monday and winning 4-3 in a defensive battle over Bishop Moore of Orlando on Tuesday. #1 Seed in District 9 2A earned them a first-round bye. The lady Warriors will play the winner of #4 Land O’ Lakes (6-4) vs #5 East Lake (7-9) on Tuesday 4/12 7:30pm. We expect to see them easily win the District 9 2A Title and advance to Regional Play.
  2. Newsome (11-4) – The lady Wolves ended regular season play with a 20-4 win over Robinson on Tuesday. Capturing #1 Seed for District 10 2A the lady Wolves earned a bye for Playoff Quarter Finals on Monday. They will be hosting the winner of #4 Seed Palm Harbor University (7-5) vs #5 Seed Bloomingdale (2-8) on Tuesday 4/12 at 5pm. We expect to see them playing on Thursday for the District 10 2A Final. Could we see another Plant matchup? Sickles High School will be hosting District 10 2A Girls Playoffs.
  3. Plant (10-4) – The lady Panthers had one game on the schedule to complete regular season this week. Beating Alonso 19-4 on the road Monday night. The lady Panthers #3 Seed will play #6 Seed Alonso (3-13) at Sickles H.S. in the first round of playoffs on Monday 4/11. We expect to see them fighting it out with Sickles #2 Seed on Tuesday for the chance to play for District Final on Thursday.
  4. Sickles (14-3) – The lady Gryphons are hot as they have now won 11 straight, beating Freedom 20-6 on Monday at home, then beating Mitchell 11-5 away on Friday night, then capping off the week with a 13-3 Saturday morning win over Tampa Catholic. The lady Gryphons are #2 Seed in District 10 2A Playoffs and will be hosting all District 10 2A Playoff Games. They will play #7 Seed Durant (0-11-1) on Monday 4/11 at 7pm. We expect a matchup with Plant (10-4) on Tuesday 7pm. Definitely a game to watch.
  5. Manatee (9-3) – The lady Hurricanes had only one game this week to close out regular season, beating Sarasota 16-3 on the road Tuesday. In yet another case of odd seeding the lady Hurricanes are #2 Seed in District 11 2A playoffs even though they beat #1 Seed Riverview just a couple weeks ago. They will play District 11 Semi Final on Monday 4/11 vs #3 Seed Lakewood Ranch (4-4). We predict a rematch with Riverview on Tuesday for the District 11 2A finals.

Week 7

  1. Steinbrenner (14-1) – The lady Warriors keep on winning as they add another 4 wins to make it 9 straight since their OT loss to Vero Beach in early March. Opening the week with a 12-7 home win over Olentangy Liberty from Ohio on Monday. Sandwiched by 2 lopsided wins over Wharton 17-3 and Bloomingdale 21-0 Tuesday and Thursday. Then closing the week with a big 6-5 home win over stellar Ponte Vedra on Friday. 2 regular season games left on the schedule for the lady Warriors. Starting Monday 4/4 at Durant (0-10-1) and finishing on the road to Orlando’s Bishop Moore (9-5) on Friday. The lady Warriors seem to be running on all cylinders and are ready for playoffs to start.
  2. Newsome (10-4) – The lady Wolves had a great week starting with an expected 19-3 road win over Alonso on Monday. However, Wednesday’s district rival game at Plant was not expected, as the lady Wolves had a 10-point margin by half (12-2), eventually winning 14-4 and capturing top seed in District 10 2A. We may see these 2 teams meet again for District 10 2A Finals in a couple weeks. Only one game remaining on regular the season schedule as the lady Wolves host Robinson (7-4) on Tuesday 4/5. Then on to playoff preparations as #1 seed in District 10 2A.

The week got a lot tougher as they lost at home to District 10 rival Newsome 14-4 on Wednesday followed by a hard fought 14-9 home loss to stellar Ponte Vedra on Saturday morning. Last game of the season at Alonso (3-11) on Monday 4/4, leaving plenty of time to prep for playoffs starting the following week.
  4. Sickles (11-3) – 2 expected wins for the lady Gryphons this week starting with Tuesdays 18-4 win at Bloomingdale, followed by a 13-1 home win over Durant on Thursday. Upcoming road games to close out the season starting Friday 4/8 at a very tough Mitchell (10-1) followed by an early Saturday morning game at Tampa Catholic (6-9).
  5. Manatee (8-3) – The lady Hurricanes have been flying under the radar this season, coming close to beating some of the top teams in District 11 1A, but not quite getting the notice since they are not seeing the top teams in 2A. On Tuesday they took advantage of an opportunity to jump in to the top 5 by knocking off Riverview 16-11 at home as well as securing top seed in District 11 2A. 2 games remain for the lady Hurricanes as they travel to Sarasota (5-8) on Tuesday 4/5 then close out the season at home against Cardinal Mooney (4-8). Welcome to the top 5 ladies!

Opening with 13-8 road loss to undefeated St. Stephens on Tuesday, then a home 21-6 win over Canterbury on Thursday and closing with a double header on Saturday. Losing to powerhouse Steinbrenner 17-3 and winning 15-12 over Community School of Naples to close out the day. Only 1 game on the schedule for the usually busy lady Rams as they travel to Manatee (7-3) on Tuesday 3/29/.
  5. Sickles (9-3) – Looks like Coach Hangen’s early difficult scheduling is now paying off as the lady Gryphons defeated Wharton 19-4 on Tuesday at home, then knocking off previously undefeated and top 5 team Wiregrass by a score of 15-4 on the road Friday night. Week 4

  1. Steinbrenner (7-1) – Only one game on the schedule this week for the lady Warriors before Spring Break and what a game it was as 1A State Runner Up Lake Highland Prep came to town. This game featured 2 of the top teams in the state and lived up to its billing. Steinbrenner led 5-3 at half but soon found themselves down by 2 after the lady Highlanders scored 4 unanswered goals to take what looked to be a commanding lead mid-way thru the 2nd half.  The lady Warriors battled back with 2 critical free position goals and soon tied the game up with just under 4 mins remaining at 8 apiece. Saturday’s double-header opened at noon playing renowned Vero Beach losing 10-9 in double overtime. 25 minutes later the lady Warriors played their second game of the day beating their rival Newsome 6-5 with an overtime goal by Taylor LaPointe (Northwestern). Props to all teams involved taking on such a challenging schedule. Only 1 game on the schedule this upcoming week and what a game it will be, as the lady Warriors host 1A State Runner Up Lake Highland Prep (5-1) on Tuesday 3/8 at 5pm. Opening with a 15-3 win over Pasco on Wednesday and closing with a 19-4 win over Wesley Chapel on Friday both games on the road. Only 1 upcoming game this week at East Lake (3-3) on Wednesday. They closed the week at Robinson on Thursday, winning 17-4 and again LaPointe and Zoey Lind led with 4 points each. Interesting upcoming week as the lady Warriors host Sickles (3-2) on Tuesday 3/1 and play a double header on Saturday 3/5 vs renowned Vero Beach (2-1) at noon and rematch with Newsome (3-2) at 2pm.
  2. Newsome (3-2) – The lady Wolves opened the week against 1A State Runner-Up Lake Highland Prep on Monday night (our game of the week) losing 14-7 (6-3 at half). Sam Swanovich (Rutgers) and Mia Proctor had 4 points each on the night. We applaud the Wolves for challenging themselves against one of the top teams in the State. Nice bounce back 19-2 win over Wharton on Thursday. This coming week features, at Durant (0-3-1) on Monday 2/28, at a well-rested Berkeley Prep (3-0) on Thursday and for good measure a double header on Saturday starting at 10am against renowned Vero Beach (2-1) and then rematching with powerhouse Steinbrenner (4-0) at 2pm. Now that is a tough week.
  3. Plant (4-1) – The young lady Panthers opened the week with a 16-3 road loss to powerhouse Steinbrenner on Tuesday, then beat a very good Academy of Holy Names 16-9 away on Thursday and closed on Friday night with a 18-11 home win over Gulf Coast. No stats listed for any of the games, but we assume Sr Midfielder Luna Khatib had some big numbers. Upcoming games this week starting on Wednesday at Pasco (1-3) and closing on Friday at Wesley Chapel (0-4). We expect the lady Bulls to stay undefeated and no change for them in this poll.

Week 1

  1. Steinbrenner (2-0) – The lady Warriors cruised to an 18-2 home opening win vs Freedom on Monday. Traveling to Newsome for a Regional Final rematch on Wednesday, winning a tight penalty ridden game 10-8 which saw both teams having a player foul out. This coming week features home game vs Plant (2-0) on Tuesday 22nd. This game is another game to watch featuring 2 area top 5 teams. The lady Warriors will close out the week at Robinson (1-1) on Thursday 24th.
  2. Newsome (2-1) – The lady Wolves opened the season with a convincing 19-3 road win over Sickles on Monday. Losing on Wednesday 10-8 to rival Steinbrenner, where the lady Wolves’ top players Sam Swanovich (Rutgers) and Maya Bronson (University Alabama Huntsville) had 3 goals apiece. Goalkeeper Cassidy Bauman had 9 saves in the game. Newsome closed the week out with an 18-5 road win vs a tough Riverview. This coming week features home game vs 1A State Runner Up Lake Highland Prep (1-0) on Monday night. Definitely a game to watch. Wharton (1-0) away on Thursday to close the week.
  3. Plant (2-0) – The lady Panthers opened the first week of play with an away 14-6 victory over Robinson on Tuesday and 17-6 home win vs Sickles on Thursday. Both wins were against solid teams and a great start to the season. This upcoming week will be a stern test for the young Panthers. Regional Semi rematch with Steinbrenner on Tuesday 22nd away (game to watch), followed by a strong Academy of the Holy Names (0-1) on Thursday away and ending with at home on Friday vs the lady Sharks of Gulf Coast (1-0).
  4. Riverview (1-1) – Season opening 13-9 road victory over a very good Academy of the Holy Names is an eye opener. Top Ram player Susan Lowther 6 goals on the night. Upcoming games this week at Land 0’ Lakes (1-0) on Tuesday 22nd followed by back to back home games Thursday vs Sunlake (1-1) and Friday vs Mitchell (2-0).

Pre-Season

  1. Steinbrenner – Phenomenal 2021 going 17-2, reaching State Semi Finals for the first time, losing to eventual State Champion St. Thomas Aquinas in a tight 8-7 Semi Final game. The Lady Warriors averaged 19 goals per game last year while allowing only 4. As the 2022 season starts, the Steinbrenner girls have an unprecedented (for our area) 8 college commits. 3 of which are to Division 1 teams. The Lady Warriors did not lose many players, we expect their strong Junior class led by Northwestern commit 2023 Midfielder Taylor LaPointe to dominate their district again. This team is definitely a top contender for a State Title. The Lady Warriors have a challenging schedule starting with an early Regional Final rematch with Newsome on Feb 16th. The Newsome girls lost that Regional Final 9-8 in double overtime. We are sure they are looking forward to the rematch. Other games of interest – Plant @ home on Feb 22nd, renowned Vero Beach at a neutral site Saturday March 5th, 1A State Runner Up Lake Highland Prep @ home on March 8th and hosting stellar Ponte Vedra on April 1st.
  2. Newsome – 14-2 in 2021 only 2 losses were to 1A State Runner Up Lake Highland Prep and State Semi Finalist Steinbrenner in a 9-8 Double OT barn burner of a Regional Final. The Lady Wolves were recently moved from District 11 where they have been dominant for years, winning numerous District Titles. Now they are moved into District 10 2A with another top area team and longtime rival Plant. Both teams have enjoyed relatively easy District Championships over the last few years. Not the case anymore. Newsome returns a host of talent led by Sr Captain Midfielder Sophia Torres (St. Bonaventure), Sr Midfielder Maya Bronson (University of Alabama Huntsville), Jr M/A Sam Swanovich (Rutgers) and Jr Goalkeeper Cassidy Bauman, we expect them to be one of the top teams in the area. Home Steinbrenner rematch on Feb 16th will be a game to watch (who they will play again on March 5th away. Then Plant on March 30th which has traditionally been the best match up in our area for years and has always been a game to watch.
  3. Plant – 14-4 in 2021 losing to State Semi Finalist Steinbrenner in first round of regional playoffs. It will be hard to replace graduated seniors Attack Caroline Patterson (St. Joseph) and Midfielder Carolee Jones, but the Lady Panthers have added some young talent this season along with their already talented roster including returning Jr’s A/M Sophia Gray and D/M Anna Castro. This will be the first time that Plant will be challenged for a District Title with the addition of Newsome in D10 2A. Coach Chapman as always has a rigorous schedule for the Lady Panthers. The Steinbrenner rematch on Feb 22nd on the road, will be a game to watch. As mentioned above always a great matchup and with rival Newsome on March 30th. Ponte Vedra at home on April 2nd is another game to note. District 10 2A Finals will be fun to watch this season. Plant or Newsome can easily knock each other off, but with new rules may both still advance to regionals.
  4. Riverview –7-7-1 in 2021 the Lady Rams are breathing a big sigh of relief to see powerhouse Newsome moved into District 10. They are definitely the favorite to secure the District 11 2A Title. Tough opening part of their schedule facing a very good Academy of the Holy Names on the road for the season opener on Feb 14th, followed by top 2A talent Newsome on Friday 18th at home. Coach McLeod will learn quickly how her team will compete with these tough opening games. Losses of graduated Senior Midfielders Riley Spingler and Alexis Whitmore are going to be hard to replace.
  5. Wiregrass – 9-6 in 2021, the Lady Bulls had an impressive season considering all 6 of their losses were to some of the top teams in the area including State Semi Finalist Steinbrenner (2 times). Wiregrass did have a number of seniors graduate but still have Sr. Midfielder Luna Khatib another TLR 2022 Watchlist player. Wiregrass opens on the road against a rebuilding Tampa Catholic on Feb 15th. Although Coach Havemann has a challenging schedule, it will be a tough task to knock off Steinbrenner in District 9 2A Playoffs.
