End of Regular Season

  1. Plant (13-3) – While Plant fell a goal short of a win against rivals Jesuit, they finish regular season as the top seed in district 10, #1 in region 3, and #8 in the state. The TLR-expected rematch vs Newsome in the district championship should be a packed house.
  2. Newsome (11-3) – The Wolves finished regular season with easy wins against both Robinson and Mitchell. Newsome earned the second seed in district 10 (right behind Plant), they are #2 in region 3, and #12 in the state. Even if they finish second in the district (their regular season loss to Plant was by 1 goal), they will advance to regional playoffs as an at-large team.
  3. Lakewood Ranch (10-3) – The Mustangs split their last two regular season games; a nice win against Manatee, but a single-goal loss to Venice. They are the top seed in district 11, #4 in region 3, and #19 in the state. We expect to see them in the district championship against either Manatee or Palm Harbor University. Given their ranking within region 3, either a district championship or runner-up should get them into regional playoffs.
  4. Steinbrenner (9-5) – The Warriors earned two wins to finish regular season; 16-10 against Mitchell and a shutout against Durant. Steinbrenner are the top seed in district 10, #9 in region 3, and #31 in the state. Given their 9-spot in the region, they will likely have to advance into regional playoffs as district champions, which shouldn’t be a tall order for them.
  5. Manatee (8-4) – The Hurricanes ended regular season with a tough home loss to Lakewood Ranch. They are the #2 seed in district 11 behind Lakewood Ranch. They are #7 in region 3 and #26 in the state. Even if they can’t get past LWR in districts, they may eek into regional playoffs as one of the four at-large teams.

Week 7

  1. Plant (12-2) – Plant dropped matches to DC’s Gonzaga and to Florida powerhouse Ponte Vedra, but also earned a 10-9 win against rival and TLR #2 Newsome. The Wolves finish up regular season hosting both Berkeley Prep and Jesuit. The Jesuit game is the Ihrig-Shaler Cup and is on April 5 this year. It will be a packed house, no doubt.
  2. Newsome (9-3) – The Wolves dropped a single-point game to TLR #1 Plant last week, then defeated Gulf Coast at home, 13-3. Newsome will finish up regular season with two home games; April 1 against Robinson and April 5 against Mitchell.
  3. Lakewood Ranch (9-2) – No games to report for LWR last week due to Spring Break. Next weeks opponents are all on the road; April 1 against FL #27 Manatee, April 3 against Lake Wales, then finally, April 4 against FL # 21 Venice. With LWR sitting at #20 in the state, both Manatee and Venice could be difficult matches.
  4. Steinbrenner (7-5) – The Warriors won their only game last week, a 19-3 win over Bloomingdale. To finish regular season, Steinbrenner will first host Mitchell on April 2, then travel two days later to Durant.
  5. Manatee (8-3) – The Hurricanes earned a 9-6 win over Northside Christian last week. They host TLR #3 Lakewood Ranch Monday. This game is FL #20 vs FL #27 and should be a good matchup. Manatee finishes regular season hosting FL #31 Lakeland. Strong week!

Week 6

  1. Plant (11-0) – The Panthers surprised an out of state New Trier (IL) on Saturday to stay undefeated. It’s not an easy week next week, as Plant hosts Maryland #14 Gonzaga, TLR #2 Newsome, and FL #4 Ponte Vedra. That is definitely a tough week.
  2. Newsome (8-2) – Newsome cruised to back-to-back shutouts against Freedom and Alonso last week. Next week, the Wolves travel to TLR #1 Plant, then hosts FL #21 Gulf Coast on Saturday.
  3. Lakewood Ranch (9-2) – LWR defeated TLR #5 Osceola last week, 17-7, but their previously schedule game against Venice looks as though it has been moved to the end of regular season. No games are on their schedule next week.
  4. Steinbrenner (6-5) – While dropping their game to TLR #1 Plant last week, the Warriors finished very strong to make it a single goal loss. Steinbrenner then earned wins against both Golden (CO) and Wharton. They host Bloomingdale and FL #21 Gulf Coast next week.
  5. Manatee (7-3) – The Hurricanes beat FL #17 Venice last week for a very nice win. Week 7 shows them on the road to Northside Christian, but there are discrepancies between MaxPreps, LaxNumbers, and TLR for their schedule.

Week 5

  1. Plant (8-0) – No games to report due to Spring Break. Next week’s games are on the road to FL #18 Steinbrenner and Freedom, then hosting Illinois 2023 #6 New Trier on Saturday.
  2. Newsome (6-2) – No games to report due to Spring Break. Week 6 has the Wolves first hosting Freedom, then traveling on Wednesday to Alonso.
  3. Lakewood Ranch (8-2) – First, their missing score from their week 3 SSES game was due to SSES having to cancel their season. It was a win by forfeit for LWR. They also earned a 9-8 win over Gulf Coast last week. Week 6 has LWR on the road to TLR #5 Osceola and FL #15 Venice.
  4. Steinbrenner (4-4) – No games to report due to Spring Break. Three games next week, with the Warriors hosting TLR #1 Plant, hosting Colorado’s Golden, then finishing on the road to Wharton.
  5. Manatee (6-3) – The Hurricanes split their games last week, dropping a single goal decision to Wesley Chapel, then bouncing back with a win on the road against Sarasota. Next week, Manatee visits FL #17 Canterbury, then hosts FL #15 Venice. It will definitely be a tough week.

Week 4

  1. Plant (8-0) – The Panthers (FL #5) are rolling, with blowout wins against both Durant and Alonso last week. No games next week due to Spring Break.
  2. Newsome (6-2) – Newsome defeated Trinity Catholic last week, but we show no score for their game against Freedom. The Wolves enjoy some time off next week due to Spring Break.
  3. Lakewood Ranch (6-2) – LWR is only 6-2, but their score against SSES is missing. As expected, their scheduled games last week were tougher than what they’ve been through so far. The Mustangs dropped games to both FL #9 Cardinal Mooney and FL #17 IMG. We see no reason to drop them here based on those loses. One game next week as they host Gulf Coast.
  4. Steinbrenner (4-4) – The Warriors split their two games last week – a win against Alonso, then a loss on the road to FL #26 Winter Park. No games next week due to Spring Break.
  5. Manatee (5-2) – The Hurricanes move into the Top 5 with a 5-2 record. Their two losses? FL #15 IMG and FL #16 Bishop Verot. LaxNumbers currently has them sitting at #22 in Florida 2A. Manatee’s game next week is on the road against Sarasota.

Week 3

  1. Plant (6-0) – As we wrote last week, Plant is sitting real good at 6-0 right now. The Panthers will host Durant and Alonso next week. LaxNumbers has Plant at #5 in the state. No surprises, but TLR expects them to be 8-0 after week 4.
  2. Newsome (3-2) – The Wolves split their week 3 games, beating Bloomingdale, but dropping their game to FL #12 Cardinal Mooney. Newsome hosts Freedom and Trinity Catholic next week.
  3. Lakewood Ranch (5-0) – With LWR still looking good after week 3, TLR thinks week 4 will show us the real Lakewood Ranch. They play 4 games: Cardinal Mooney, Wiregrass, IMG, and St. Stephen’s. All of the games are on the road!
  4. Steinbrenner (3-3) – The Warriors took care of both Robinson and Sickles, but dropped their match against Newsome. Their single-goal win against Sickles was a bit of a surprise, but these teams play each other hard every time. Next week’s games are against Alonso and Winter Park.
  5. Lakeland (6-1) – The Dreadnaughts dropped their first game of the season, but it was against FL #14 Venice. Next week, Lakeland has games against East Ridge, Winter Haven, and Sarasota. LaxNumbers’ computers place Lakeland at #22 in the state right now.

Week 2

  1. Plant (4-0) – The Panthers won another close game against TLR #2 Cardinal Mooney last week and have games in week 3 against Wharton and Bloomingdale. Plant should be cruising at 6-0 following next week.
  2. Newsome (3-1) – With their only loss so far being to TLR #1 Jesuit, the Wolves are looking good. Next week has them hosting Bloomingdale, then a very tough road game against FL #14 Cardinal Mooney.
  3. Steinbrenner (1-2) – The Warriors are hard to gauge this early. A 1-2 record doesn’t inspire confidence – that is until you realize their two losses were to FL #14 Cardinal Mooney and FL #12 Newsome. Robinson, Jesuit, and Sickles are scheduled for next week.
  4. Lakewood Ranch (3-0) – They stay listed at 3-0 due to no score being published for their match against Tampa Prep last week. Next up is Bradenton Christian.
  5. Lakeland (5-0) – Lakeland has quietly been winning games so far. Their biggest win came last week against FL #37 Forest. Their game against Venice could be an indicator of where they are, so keep an eye out.

Week 1

  1. Plant (2-0) – The Panthers handled both Robinson and Mitchell last week. Week 2 has them hosting Cardinal Mooney and Sickles. That Mooney game shouldn’t be missed if you can help it.
  2. Newsome (1-1) – The Wolves split their two week 1 games; a shutout against Sickles, and a loss to Jesuit. Week 2 has them playing both Steinbrenner and Wharton.
  3. Steinbrenner (1-1) – Warriors took an easy win against Freedom at home, but dropped a decision to Cardinal Mooney on the road to split their week 1 games. Newsome on the road is their next game.
  4. Lakewood Ranch (2-0) – LRHS is off to a nice start, going 2-0 with an impressive road win against Riverview in week 1. With games coming up against Bishop Verot and ODA, we’ll see if they deserve to be #4.
  5. Alonso (1-1) – The Ravens opened with a big win at home against Bloomingdale, then suffered a big loss against Calvary Christian on the road. Both Mitchell and Robinson are up in week 2.

Pre-Season

  1. Plant (0-0) – The Panthers say goodbye to 12 seniors from last year’s great squad. Will they take a step back in 2024? They haven’t in the past, so we don’t expect them to. They keep the top spot heading into the season.
  2. Steinbrenner (0-0) – Although Steinbrenner dropped five seniors from the ’23 team, TLR believes they will again surprise more than a few teams this season.
  3. Mitchell (0-0) – Losing 15(!) seniors from last year can’t help, especially when many of them were team leaders as well as stat leaders. The Mustangs will certainly need younger players to step up in 2024.
  4. Newsome (0-0) – The Wolves only drop a few seniors, so they shouldn’t see a loss of chemistry this season. TLR expects them to be on this list throughout the year.
  5. Alonso (0-0) – Alonso will be without nine of their senior leaders this year, but always seem to put a solid, well-coached team on the field every season.
