Final Poll

  1. Jesuit (13-2) – The Tigers beat both Wesley Chapel and Cypress Creek to easily take the 1A District 9 title. They began our poll at #1 and kept that spot all season. We look forward to their matchups in Regionals.
  2. Cardinal Mooney (10-6) – Like Jesuit, Mooney won their two district playoff games (against St. Petersburg and St. Stephen’s) pretty easily. They have been crowned 1A District 11 champions and will continue play into the Regionals.
  3. Osceola (13-4) – Osceola showed up on our poll after week 6, but stayed there with great gameplay. They surprised a lot of people, including us. They beat Berkeley Prep in triple overtime to take the 1A  District 10 trophy. Look for them to be favorites in district 10 in 2023.
  4. Berkeley Prep (8-10) – The Bucs suffered a triple overtime heartbreaker to Osceola in the District 10 championship. They started at #3 in this poll and ended up at #4. They will likely be in contention for the 4th at-large bid along with Cypress Creek.
  5. St. Stephen’s (11-3) – The Falcons began the poll at #4 and end at #5. We expect to see them included in the at-large bids to join others in Region 3 playoffs.

End of Regular Season

  1. Jesuit (11-2) – The Tigers earned wins over Berkeley Prep and All Saint’s Academy to begin week 8, but dropped their game against Plant 4-8. They are the #1 seed in district 9 and we fully expect them to be crowned district champions on April 13.
  2. Cardinal Mooney (8-6) – Rough week for the Cougars as they drop games to both Gulf Coast and Lake Highland Prep. Cardinal Mooney has earned the top seed in district 11 and will likely face St. Stephen’s in the district championship on April 14.
  3. Berkeley Prep (6-9) – The final week of regular season had the Bucs on the road against both Jesuit and Plant, two games they dropped. Berkeley is the #2 seed in district 10, even after beating #1 seed Osceola. Perhaps they’ll meet again in the district championship.
  4. Calvary Christian (8-7) – Calvary finished strong last week earning wins against both Wiregrass and The First Academy. The Warriors are the #3 seed in district 10 and will face #6 Northeast on Monday. We expect them to be in a rematch against Berkeley on Tuesday.
  5. Osceola (10-4) – Osceola finished regular season with wins over Palm Harbor University and Clearwater last week. They have earned the top seed in district 10 and will likely end up in a rematch against Northside Christian on Tuesday before eventually finding themselves in the district championship on April 14.

Week 7

  1. Jesuit (9-1) – The Tigers took down Calvary Christian, Oak Hall, and Riverview last week and just continue to impress. They started pre-season at #1 on this list and will end regular season at #1. Everyone is just waiting for their April 8th meeting with Plant so we can all be entertained.
  2. Cardinal Mooney (8-4) – Mooney had a very close call against Canterbury, but did end up with the win 16-15. They also took the game against Springboro. They finish real strong with their last game against Lake Highland Prep in Sarasota. Our readers down south should attend that match on April 8.
  3. Berkeley Prep (6-7) – The Bucs split last week’s games with a win over Out-of-Door and a loss to TLR’s #3 Steinbrenner. Berkeley’s schedule for the last week of regular season has them on the road against both Jesuit and Plant. That’s a tough way to get ready for districts!
  4. Calvary Christian (6-7) – The Warriors dropped their game against Jesuit, beat Palm Harbor University, and lost to Lakeland last week. We still find it hard to move them (or Osceola or SSES) due to head-to-head matchup results. Calvary beat Osceola by 4. Osceola beat SSES by 10. Calvary finishes regular season with a road game on April 8 against The First Academy.
  5. Osceola (8-4) – Osceola’s only game last week was a 14-3 win over Northside Christian – a very nice district win. They are listed as having two games on April 4 – against Palm Harbor University and against Clearwater. We expect one of those is going to be removed from MaxPreps soon.

Week 6

  1. Jesuit (6-1) – The Tigers took down Forest 16-1 in week 6. Their next game is against TLR #4 Calvary Christian on March 28 on the road.
  2. Cardinal Mooney (6-4) – The Cougars split their week 6 games, first with a win against a tough Community School of Naples team, then a super tight single-goal road loss to TLR’s 2A #1 Plant. Mooney is a young team this season, but still play tough and hard.
  3. Berkeley Prep (5-6) – No games in week 6 due to spring break.
  4. Calvary Christian (5-5) – Calvary started their week off with a district win over TLR’s former #4 Northside Christian, which moved them up here. They then suffered a loss to Forest on March 24. Things don’t get easier for the Warriors as they face #1 Jesuit in week 7.
  5. Osceola (7-3) – Osceola makes their debut on the 1A Top 5 due to their victory over St. Stephen’s, but a loss to Calvary Christian. Theoretically, TLR’s 1A numbers 4 through 7 are Calvary, Osceola, SSES, and Northside Christian. Those teams are all pretty close to one another right now.

Week 5

  1. Jesuit (5-1) – No changes due to spring break. Games this week against Forest and Calvary Christian. We expect the Tigers to continue to do very well up to their April 8 regular season finale against Plant.
  2. Cardinal Mooney (5-3) – No changes due to spring break. Mooney returns to play on Tuesday against Community School of Naples, but we’ve got their game at Plant on Friday circled!
  3. Berkeley Prep (5-6) – The Bucs split their week 5 games with a close 11-9 loss to FL #9 Riverview and a nice win against Tampa Catholic. Their spring break is this week, so no games are scheduled.
  4. Northside Christian (6-1) – No changes due to spring break. This week the Mustangs play Calvary Christian. That game is on Tuesday and will be not only a district seeding battle, but a battle for the 4th spot on this list.
  5. Calvary Christian (4-4) – No changes due to spring break. As mentioned above, the Warriors have a great, tough matchup against Northside Christian Tuesday that shouldn’t be missed!

Week 4

  1. Jesuit (5-1) – The Tigers enjoyed a comfortable win over Pasco in week 4. Spring break next week, so don’t expect much in the way of changes here.
  2. Cardinal Mooney (5-3) – Mooney handled both Lakewood Ranch and Boca Raton last week, but fell to FL #10 Saint John Paul II to finish week 4. Again, no games next week.
  3. Berkeley Prep (4-5) – The Bucs split their week 4 games with a win over Calvary Christian and a loss to FL #8 Oak Hall. Two games this week: Riverview and Tampa Catholic, then spring break.
  4. Northside Christian (6-1) – Two more wins for NCS in week 4 – vs Clearwater and Admiral Farragut. No games for a while due to spring break, but we’ll certainly know whether they belong here after their game against Calvary Christian on March 22.
  5. Calvary Christian (4-4) – The Warriors are clearly better than Osceola and Osceola is clearly better than SSES. Calvary seems to have only lost to much better teams. They deserve this spot right now.

Week 3

  1. Jesuit (4-1) – Another week and another nice win for the Tigers as they hosted TLR’s #2 Cardinal Mooney and came away with a 10-6 win. There are lots of weapons on this Jesuit squad and they are primed to make a deep run this season.
  2. Cardinal Mooney (3-2) – Mooney suffered a 4-point loss to Jesuit to begin week 3, but then traveled to TLR’s 2A #2 Newsome and left with a 2OT win in what we said last week would be a huge game. Turns out we were absolutely right.
  3. St. Stephen’s (3-1) – The Falcons beat Cypress Creek, lost to Canterbury, and finished with a win against Lakewood Ranch. They are an easy choice to move up this week. They play Bishop Verot and Manatee in week 4.
  4. Berkeley Prep (3-4) – The Bucs split their two week 3 games with a win over district opponent and TLR #5 Northside Christian and a loss to Canterbury at home. With SSES holding the edge against common opponents, they jump over Berkeley after week 3.
  5. Northside Christian (4-1) – NCS suffered a loss to Berkeley to begin week 3, then bounced back with a win over St. Pete Catholic. Only one game next week and it’s against Admiral Farragut on March 8.

Week 2

  1. Jesuit (2-1) – The Tigers took down a pretty strong Mitchell team this week, but suffered their first loss as well – a 5-7 contest against 2021 FHSAA 2A Final Four team in Lake Mary. Jesuit hosts another very big local matchup on Tuesday when TLR’s #2 team Cardinal Mooney comes to Tampa. Definitely worth attending if you can!
  2. Cardinal Mooney (2-1) – Like Jesuit, Mooney split their games last week. The Cougars took a good win over Berkeley Prep at home, but lost big on the road to 2021’s FHSAA 2A state runner-up Winter Park. Next week continues the roughs schedule as Mooney visits both Jesuit (on 3/1) and Newsome (on 3/4). If you’re a fan of lacrosse, catch at least one of these!
  3. Berkeley Prep (2-3) – The Buccaneers suffered an overtime loss on the road at Lakewood Ranch, then another road loss to TLR’s #2 Cardinal Mooney in week 2. As stated below, this is going to be a tough season for Berkeley. But if they can’t pull things together, their ranking here will suffer.
  4. St. Stephen’s (1-0) – Games previously loaded into MaxPreps have vanished, so instead of playing two games last week, the Falcons played zero. They’re supposed to pick things back up in week 3 with a March 1 matchup against Canterbury. That shouldn’t be an easy win for either team, but since SSES only has 1 game to go on, it really is hard to tell still.
  5. Northside Christian (3-0) – The early season mettle of both Berkeley Prep and Northside Christian will be determined on March 1 when the two teams meet at NCS for a district matchup. As stated, it’s early, but district seeding is certainly on the line here. Like SSES, Northside Christian did not have games on the books for last week.

Week 1

  1. Jesuit (1-0) – The Tigers only played one game in week 1, but it was on the road against 2021 FHSAA Class 1A State Semifinalist Canterbury. (It should be noted that Canterbury defeated Jesuit to keep them out of the state semis in 2021) Jesuit won all four quarters to take the match 9-7, a score they we hoping for in 2021. Their matchup in week 2 against Mitchell could prove interesting, but we expect Jesuit to take it. Their next big game will be at home on March 1 against Cardinal Mooney.
  2. Cardinal Mooney (1-0) – The Cougars are another team with only one game under their belt in week 1. In this case, it was a lopsided 16-2 win against their rival from down south, Riverview. As mentioned above, be sure to try to see their matchup on March 1 at Jesuit. It might be a packed house.
  3. Berkeley Prep (2-1) – The Buccaneers started the season with two 1-goal wins against both Alonso and Osceola, but also a loss to our 2A #3 Mitchell. Week 2 has Berkeley on the road against Lakewood Ranch on 2/22 and Cardinal Mooney on 2/25. We expect the Bucs to split those games.
  4. St. Stephen’s (1-0) – The Falcons join both Jesuit and Cardinal Mooney in the 1-game club for week 1. Their single outing resulted in a 17-5 win over St. Petersburg on the road. Things get decidedly dicier for the Falcons in Week 2 as they’ll be on the road again, this time against a very tough Canterbury squad. TLR expects to see SSES sitting at 2-1 after week 2.
  5. Northside Christian (3-0) – The Mustangs jump into the Top 5 with a nice 3-0 start to the 2022 season. NCS booked wins against Palm Harbor University, Tampa Catholic, and Sarasota in Week 1. We expect them to face a tougher opponent on March 1 when NCS will host our #3 team Berkeley Prep.

Pre-Season

  1. Jesuit – A 14-3 season in 2021 will likely repeat in 2022 with the Tigers being a serious contender for best boys team in the area this year. They are still stacked and always backfill with outstanding young talent. As with 2021, keep an eye out for their matchup with 2A’s Plant, which is again likely to be the best game in 2022.
  2. Cardinal Mooney – The Cougars finished 2021 at 10-5 with losses coming from some of the best teams in the state. They lost 11 seniors in 2021, with 6 of those being playmakers. They were young in 2021, perhaps younger in 2022. Still, TLR has learned not to count them out. They continue to impress us, regardless of the players lost.
  3. Berkeley Prep – Berkeley went 9-7 in 2021, which for them was a bit lower than they have been used to. They graduated a whopping 12 seniors, including a 4-year starter in goal as well as their top 2 goal-scorers. The 2022 version of the Buccaneers will certainly be a younger squad. The battles for the top spot in district 10 between them and Northside Christian or Calvary Christian could prove interesting.
  4. St. Stephen’s – The Falcons impressed us in 2021, finishing in our overall 1A Boys Top 5. They enjoyed wins over some good opponents last season. But the losses of Cade Ryskamp on offense and Tyler Katchen in goal will definitely hurt them in 2022. We expect them to battle Admiral Farragut for the #2 spot in their district with either team having a legitimate shot at it.
  5. Calvary Christian – The Warriors went 13-4 in 2021, with losses coming from Jesuit, SSES, and Berkeley (x2). That is impressive. Calvary also only lost 4 players in 2021. The caveat there is that one was their powerhouse & leading goal scorer and the other was a top Tampa-area goalie. This is always a well-coached team, so expect them to continue to battle every game.
