Inaugural Tampa Winter Jam a Success

Tampa Chill (Wharton)

With the success of the local Tampa Jam lacrosse tournament over the last few summers, it is no surprise that the off-season winter version of the tournament of the same name would do just as well. Clean fields, marked field numbers, great food vendors, and an excellent array of lacrosse talent.

In the High School B division, surprise upstart Home Team Lacrosse (Carollwood Day School) ran the table most of the day, but eventually fell to division champions Old School LC (Lake Mary High School) in that division’s championship game. The talent level of Lake Mary isn’t a surprise as they are always on the map in FHSAA events. But it is noteworthy that Carollwood Day School is in the process of fielding that school’s first ever lacrosse team. Early success like this clearly indicates that program is heading in the right direction.

Shine (Steinbrenner)

High School A was led through the early full-length games Shine (Steinbrenner High School) and Tampa Chill (Wharton High School) as both teams began the shorter playoff games undefeated at 3-0. The two teams would eventually meet in the B division championship game with Shine taking the title game.

Tampa Hounds (Jesuit)

In the upper division, High School AA, Old School LC (Lake Mary High School) and Tampa Hounds (Jesuit) looked head and shoulders above the rest – and their 3-0 records going into the 10 minute playoff games was the proof. Both earned first round byes and ended up playing well enough to earn a spot in the AA championship game. In a 10-minute game, a combination of a bad pass and/or a call that doesn’t go your way can make a difference. The Old School LC coach would certainly argue that point as a whistle one second before a goal by his squad was waved off. The Hounds would take home the title in a quick 2-1 game.

Hats off to the Kuebrich brothers and the rest of K4 Lacrosse for this outstanding event to help get these teams ready for the start of the spring season.
