2018 Boys District Playoffs

With district games impacting seeding now complete, Tampa Lax Report can announce seeding for all 4 of our area’s districts – along with playoff dates, times, and locations.

District 14

1 Newsome 4-0
2 Bloomingdale 3-1
3 Wharton 1-3
4 Durant 1-3

Finals
2 -Bloomingdale
vs
April 19, 7 p.m.
vs
4 – Durant
3- Wharton

District 14 has three teams at 1-3 all tied for the #3 and #4 seeds. Under the FHSAA rules for lacrosse, tiebreaker rules are in effect. In doing through each of the rules, no one team is determined to be ahead of the others. In this scenario, the district manager would pull a single team from a hat. That team would be the #3 seed. Now, with 2 teams left, the 2-team tiebreaker rules come into play. Under that scenario, head-to-head would determine which team takes the #4 spot. If Wharton gets pulled, then Durant is #4. If Freedom is pulled, then Wharton is #4. If Durant is pulled, then Freedom is #4. (Note: Wharton’s name was pulled from the hat. Durant gets the #4 spot due to 2-team tiebreaker with Freedom)

3- Steinbrenner

The biggest surprise here is Wiregrass taking the #2 spot over Steinbrenner. Our pre-season predictions for District 15 had Sickles as #1, Steinbrenner as #2, and Wiregrass as #3. Congratulations to FHSAA newcomers Wirgrass for their outstanding work this season and hats off to Sickles for taking the top spot.

District 16
Seed Team Record
1 Plant 7-0
2 Jesuit 6-1

2 -Jesuit

4 – Berkeley
3- Tampa Catholic

While we picked Jesuit to take the #1 spot in our pre-season rankings, we did hedge our predictions by stating that it wouldn’t be a surprise if either Plant or Jesuit took the spot. The Plant vs Jesuit game was great. There’s a chance we may see a rematch in the finals for District 16.

District 17
Seed Team Record
1 Cardinal Mooney 5-0
2 Out-of-Door 4-1
3 Riverview 3-2
4 St. Stephen’s 2-3

1 – Cardinal Mooney
Finals
2 -Out-of-Door
vs
April 19, 7 p.m.
vs
4 – St. Stephen’s
3- Riverview

We had Cardinal Mooney running the table in District 17, and they have not only done that, but have placed themselves on the Florida landscape in a big way this season. They recently took down defending state champs St. Thomas Aquinas at home, so they are primed to make a deep run this year.
